The new edition of Goodwood, the Festival of Speed that has been held for more than thirty years at Goodwood House in England, opens this year with an exceptional unveiling: the Bizzarrini 5300 Aperta Lusso. This “New Classic,” which remained a design on paper for over sixty years - created by Giorgetto Giugiaro during his collaboration with Giotto Bizzarrini - is now coming to life in a limited series of ten custom-built models, marking the first - in every sense - new Bizzarrini production since the 1960s.

The first car, the focus of the presentation, is called “La Dolce Vita,” and it is the realization of a dream: a combination of luxury and modern technology with the style and elegance of the 1960s. To the naked eye it is a vintage car, from behind the wheel it offers all the reassurance, comfort and reliability of the 21st Century.

The open-topped interpretation of the 5300 GT Corsa - the most renowned model produced by Bizzarrini - was always part of this vision. In 1962, the now famous arch structure was first seen in a prototype by Giorgetto Giugiaro whilst at Bertone. The Bizzarrini company was focused on racing, so the design and drawings for the open car went into the archive, to remain this way following the shuttering of the company in 1969. Now - decades later - in the company’s resurgent new era those drawings become the foundation for the next evolution and the first modern-day Bizzarrini.
